Stress Echocardiogram
Ultrasound images are obtained before and immediately after exercise.
About this service
What Is Stress Echocardiogram?
- A Stress Echocardiogram combines a treadmill stress test with ultrasound imaging of the heart. It allows us to evaluate how well your heart muscle pumps and how effectively blood is supplied to the heart during physical stress.
- Ultrasound images of the heart are taken before exercise and immediately after walking on the treadmill. By comparing these images, we can identify areas of the heart muscle that may not be receiving adequate blood flow from the coronary arteries.
- A stress echocardiogram helps detect coronary artery disease, evaluate unexplained chest discomfort or shortness of breath, assess abnormal stress test results, and guide treatment decisions. It provides more detailed information than a standard exercise stress test alone.
What to expect
The test typically takes about 20-30 minutes. You will be closely monitored during exercise, and ultrasound images will be obtained before and immediately after the treadmill portion. There is no radiation involved.
Stress echocardiogram images help evaluate blood flow to the heart muscle.
