About this service
What Is Echocardiogram (Cardiac Ultrasound) ?
- Echocardiogram is a safe, non-invasive ultrasound test that uses sound waves to create moving images of the heart. It allows us to see the heart’s chambers, valves, and overall pumping function in real time.
- This test helps evaluate how well the heart muscle is working, how the valves are opening and closing, and whether there are structural abnormalities. It is commonly used to assess heart murmurs, shortness of breath, heart failure, valve disease, cardiomyopathy, and other cardiac conditions.
- An echocardiogram provides detailed information about the heart’s size, strength, and blood flow patterns, helping guide diagnosis and treatment decisions.
What to expect
The test usually takes 20 minutes. A small handheld device (transducer) is placed on the chest with gel to obtain images. There is no radiation, no needles, and the procedure is painless.
