About this service
What Is an Electrocardiogram?
- An electrocardiogram (ECG), also called an EKG, is a quick, painless test that records the heart’s electrical activity—the signals that make the heartbeat.
- Small adhesive patches (electrodes) are placed on the chest, arms, and legs to capture the rhythm and timing of each heartbeat.
- An ECG can help detect problems such as irregular heart rhythms (arrhythmias), signs of a prior or current heart attack, conduction abnormalities, and other heart conditions.
- Results are available immediately and are interpreted by our medical team as part of your overall cardiovascular evaluation.
What to expect
The test usually takes about 5 minutes. There are no needles, and it does not deliver electricity into your body.
